Postal Service Practice Exam Prep: Free Practice Test & Study Guide

The “Hold Mail” service is designed for customers who will be away from their residence for a period and need their mail safeguarded during that time. This service allows individuals to request that all incoming mail be held at their local post office instead of being delivered to their home. This is particularly useful for vacations or temporary relocations, preventing mail buildup that could attract unwanted attention, and ensuring that important correspondence is kept secure until the customer returns.

This service provides a seamless way to manage mail delivery, as customers can specify the dates for the mail hold, and once they return, the held mail is delivered all at once, or they can choose to pick it up directly from the post office. Other options, such as online checking, mail forwarding, or automatic returns to sender, do not specifically address the need for temporarily stopping mail delivery during absences. Hence, this accurately describes the purpose and function of the “Hold Mail” service.
